DoD GLP-1/GIP Real-World Evidence Program
Posted: July 2025
About: The U.S. Department of Defense is launching a real-world evidence program on GLP-1/GIP therapies, focusing on oncology, asthma, and military readiness outcomes. Studies will tap the Military Health System’s TRICARE database—9.5 million universally insured service-members, families, and retirees—with linked claims, EHR, lab, pharmacy, and vital-status data dating back to 2003.
Call to Action: Looking for life sciences sponsors.
Why join?
• Early say in a high-profile federal study
• Rapid, low-cost real-world evidence vs running a solo trial
• Visibility with regulators, payers, and clinicians
Ideal partners: Pharma/biotech with GLP-1 pipelines or metabolic-oncology / metabolic-respiratory interests.

How do obesity medicine physicians counsel reproductive-age patients about anti-obesity medications (AOMs)?
Posted: July 2025
About: We are recruiting US physicians who practice obesity medicine. An interdisciplinary team of clinicians at University of California, San Diego are conducting a study to assess reproductive health counseling and recommendations. As a physician who prescribes anti-obesity medications, we would like to invite you to participate in this important research.
The study aims to better understand current practices in reproductive health and contraceptive counseling among physicians prescribing anti-obesity medications, with the goal of improving educational resources. Your insights would be valuable in shaping future training programs.
Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. As a token of appreciation for your time, participants can choose to be entered into a drawing to win a $100 Amazon gift card. Please note that your email address will be collected solely for the purpose of contacting you about future research opportunities and drawing. The email address will not be linked to your responses in the study data.
Call to Action: Recruiting US physicians who practice obesity medicine. If you are interested in participating, please follow this link: https://redcap.link/ucsd.aom.repro
Contact: If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at familyplanningresearch@ucsd.edu.
We are using snowball recruitment, so please forward this email with the survey link to your colleagues who prescribe anti-obesity medications. Thank you so much!
GLP-1’s Best Friend - Sea-Band® Nausea Relief Bands|Reduce GLP-1 Associated Nausea within 5 Minutes
Posted: July 2025
About: Research published in peer-reviewed journal Obesity Pillars, confirms that Sea-Band Nausea Relief Bands consistently reduces GLP-1 associated nausea, with one third of trial participants experiencing relief within 5 minutes of wearing the bands.
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist-based medications, collectively known as GLP-1s, are revolutionising the approach to long-term weight loss, diabetes control and health improvements including cardiovascular health, with weight loss as high as 15-22% of total body weight.
But GLP-1s like Wegovy®, Ozempic®, Zepbound® and Mounjaro®, are not without side effects, and nausea is one of the most common experienced, with symptoms so severe that over 30% of people discontinue their GLP-1 medication after just four weeks.
In the recent study led by Obesity Medicine expert Dr. Florencia Ziemke, MD, dABOM, Sea-Band, a drug-free, class II FDA-cleared medical device for relief of nausea in motion sickness, morning sickness, chemotherapy and anesthesia induced nausea, was found to reduce GLP-1 associated nausea at a consistent rate of over 80% during the study period. 359 episodes of nausea were recorded amongst 31 adult participants over 4 weeks; Sea-Bands were used in all recorded episodes of nausea, and nausea relief was achieved within 5 min in one third of episodes, and in over 5 min but under 20 min in the remainder of the episodes.
Worn like a sweatband around the wrist, the pressure stud sewn into the interior of each acupressure wristband, presses against and stimulates the P6 (or Nei-Kuan) acupressure point on the inside of the wrist. Extensive research, clinical reviews and placebo-controlled trials, show that pressure applied to this point, can relieve nausea and vomiting associated with motion and travel, pregnancy, chemotherapy, migraine and post-operative recovery - and as demonstrated by this most recent study, nausea associated with GLP-1 medication use.
Study author and clinical lead Dr. Ziemke says: “Nausea is an established side effect of GLP-1 medications, which I see in clinical practice. Prescription anti-nausea medication can present a challenge with drug interactions if a person is on other medications, plus they are not side effect free. Dietary changes alone may not be sufficient to tame the symptom. Published placebo-controlled trials have well established Sea-Band’s use for nausea relief, which is seen within minutes for several indications. Whilst a larger trial is warranted, the results of this initial pilot study demonstrates proof of concept for the use of Sea-Bands in the treatment of GLP-1 associated nausea and should give hope to the millions of medication users looking to achieve their weight loss and wider reaching health goals.”
Sea-Band is natural, discreet, and free from side-effects. Bands can be worn either as a preventative measure before nausea is anticipated, or after nausea kicks in, and need to fit snugly around the wrist to work. The Sea-Band range of products – including an all new XL band (MSRP $14.00 one pair) designed especially for those wanting to use Sea-Bands alongside their GLP-1 medication - is available from www.sea-band.com (multiples available).
